Dental Cleaning Pembroke Pines, FL

Woman sitting in a dental chair, before her dental cleaning. When you come in to see us every six months, we will do two things. First, we examine your teeth, gums, tongue, and the rest of your mouth. Second, we will do a deep cleaning. These cleanings are important for a number of reasons. You should always come see us here at Everglades Family Dental every six months for a cleaning because of the many benefits to your oral health.

What Do We Do During a Dental Cleaning?

A deep cleaning is designed to remove all of the tartar, plaque, and other debris from your mouth. After we have done our exam, during which we look for various signs of poor oral health, disease, and other issues, we do the cleaning. This process is broken down into a few different tasks.

The first thing we do is scrape your teeth using a tool called a scaler. This tool removes all of the built-up plaque and tartar. While your teeth may look clean, there are often small amounts of these harmful substances stuck to the surface of your teeth, especially in the hard-to-reach places. There are two types of scrapers we may use. One is a manual scraper with a small hook that scrapes off the plaque, while the other is an ultrasonic version of the tooth that uses vibrations and water.

After scraping your teeth, we use a polisher to remove stains and restore the brilliant white smile that so many people love. Once that is done, we will give you a professional flossing to make certain there is no plaque left between your teeth. The final step of a cleaning is a fluoride treatment. We will fill a set of trays with fluoride gel and place them over your teeth for a minute or so. The fluoride will help your teeth rebuild their enamel, which reduces the risk of cavities.

Why Are Dental Cleanings Necessary?

While you may do a very good job brushing and flossing on your own, the fact is that it is very difficult to clean your own mouth. You may not always be able to clean every part of every tooth. When we clean your teeth, we are able to reach these spaces and see more clearly what needs to be cleaned because we do not have to use a mirror. We can shine a light into all of the dark recesses of your mouth to make certain we clean every tooth and get floss into every space. We also use professional-grade tools and toothpaste in our cleanings.

A cleaning will reduce your risk of cavities and gum disease. The fluoride treatment improves the enamel on your teeth, while our professional flossing gets into the places you may not always be able to reach.

Who Needs a Dental Cleaning?

Everyone should come in for a dental exam and a cleaning every six months. Even if you brush twice a day and floss regularly, you should still have a cleaning done to get rid of anything you may have missed. If you do not have your next cleaning scheduled, call Everglades Family Dental at (754) 764-0465 to make your appointment.
